Firefox 4 UI for Firefox 3.6

Mozilla is working on Firefox 3.7 at the moment, which is in alpha 5 candidate builds and contains a new glass UI, where you has the ability to put tabs on the top, just like in Chrome. Now this feature were for a long time meant for Firefox 4, but now it’s back in Firefox 3.7, but if in stays there or if 3.7 turns out to be Firefox 4, isn’t known for sure right now.

Mozilla has created a mockup page, where you can see what they are aiming for and if you wan’t to try it out, you can off course install Firefox 3.7 alpha 5 candidate build 1, but do note it’s a alpha and will contains some major bugs.

There is an alternative for Firefox 3.6 users, which can transform the UI in stable Firefox 3.6 to match the new UI. Here is my Firefox 3.6, after my transform.

You need the following:

Install all four of them, restart your Firefox and go into add-ons manager and properties for Stratabuddy. If you want to match my UI settings, use the following:

  • Disable “Show app button” in App button settings
  • Use Aero Glass in Window settings
  • Use Tabs on top (white) in Tabs settings
  • Everything is checked in Tabs settings, but “Always show tab close button”
  • In Misc settings the following is checked: Progress lines and Combined stop

In properties for the Fission add-on, nothing is checked and Bookmark toolbar and menu bar is disabled. I would also suggest adding bookmark button to your toolbar, for easy access to bookmark sidebar, if you have disabled the bookmark toolbar.

Now you should be running a pretty slick glass UI in Firefox 3.6 and when 3.7 gets released, it gets even better, which hopefully is sometime in late July.
